Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3
Who is the fight against? Fight is not against flesh and blood, weapons are not carnal but spiritual. Fight against Satan and His wiles, not against people and not for control of the world. We give up on world’s means and follow Christ. We are by default members of darkness who need to come to the light.
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
From—out of the power of. Translated—transferred from one place to another.
We need to switch into kingdom of light
How does salvation happen?
Irresistible Grace—God makes you believe, you have no choice.
Prevenient Grace—You can’t be saved unless God saves you, but you can resist
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Past tense. Paul then launches into discussion of God’s dealing with Israel and how this helped the Gentiles.
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Christ was the chosen one to redeem us before creation of world. Vs. 1--Us are the saints in Ephesus and the faithful in Christ.
Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.]13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
There are set times that God worked through with Israel and Gentiles, things hidden are now revealed, but have always been God’s plan since before creation.
Those who believe in Christ also have an inheritance.
]--A response to God’s Word appears to be the deciding factor—faith.
--Beware of theologian explanations; state it the way the Bible does and leave the theorizing for people who don’t have to be practical.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Whatever Romans 8 and Ephesians 1 are talking about, they do not and cannot refute the clear statements made abundantly that salvation is up to us having faith. In my mind, the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, I don’t need some extra force to convert me to believe the Gospel, the Gospel has the power to convert. I simply believe it.
