Scripture Reading: Genesis 3

Galatians 1:6-9

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Marvel—surprise at something reprehensible, sorrowful surprise. Removed—turncoat, traitor, apostate. removing, an apostasy in progress.

Not another—only one, all others are false. Pervert—corrupt, turn.

Angel—something even greater than a human. Accursed—cut off from Christ and God, a thing set apart to destruction, anathema. Not excommunication, much more severe.

--Another gospel: hurdles placed between people and God

We end up dealing with ourselves and not God.

Galatians 3:6-9—different responsibilities, but salvation is always by faith

Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful [believing] Abraham.

Accounted as righteousness—his faith was righteous as all righteousness is linked with faith. Jews keep law because Abraham did, this keeps their traditions alive and excludes Gentiles. Paul shifts the main point to faith.

Which are of faith—which spring from faith, the source and starting place of spiritual life. Main motivator. Keeping OT law does not make you a child of Abraham, faith does.

Children of Abraham—not by heredity, nor by law, but only by faith.

God would justify—this is His one way of justifying sinners. Preach before—announced beforehand, the Promise was basically the Gospel in anticipation.

In thee—as followers of his faith.

Romans 16:25-26

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Since world began—always been God’s plan. Everyone who has been saved has always been saved by faith in the Gospel, according to the revelation they had available.

Revelation 14:6-7

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

God holds out one last opportunity for people to choose in the Tribulation Period.

Everlasting Gospel—Gospel that has been around as long as the everlasting God and brings creation into everlasting communion with God.
