Scripture Reading: Isaiah 55

Isaiah 55:8-11

 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

God forgives people—this is not our thought! We don’t let offenses against us go as quickly as God does. Rain and snow go but they do not go in vain—they change the landscape. God’s word does the same. Word—He says He’ll pardon; He will!

Jeremiah 23:5-8

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness. 7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that they shall no more say, The Lord liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8 But, The Lord liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Prophecies made to David of a King and a Messiah will happen. God made a promise to send Messiah. Done. God also promised to restore Israel to their land. It will happen.

Jeremiah 23:9-11-- God’s Words go out of His mouth and stuff does what God’s Word says, except people of course!

Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the Lord, and because of the words of his holiness.10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourns; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the Lord.

God’s Word makes Jeremiah stagger. In face of God’s word, Israel persists in their rebellious sin. They put idols in the temple! They act as if God’s word has no power and go against it.

--Creation understands when the creator talks, even the winds and waves obey Him, but we don’t because we forget that our Bibles are God’s Words.

2 Timothy 3:13-17

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Deceive—if you’ve begun deceiving others, you are far down the road of being deceived yourself. Continue—abide, dwell in. Assured—faithful, trustworthy, firmly persuaded. Child—infant, grew up in a believing home. Holy Scriptures—at that time was only the OT, which was enough to bring people to faith in Messiah, also fit in well with what apostles taught. All-every single part of Scripture. They are profitable because they are God’s Word. Profitable—helpful, advantageous. They do good things for you! Changes you into someone who can do good!

2 Peter 1:20-21

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Private—not the invention of man. In contrast, the word came by the Holy Spirit. God does the speaking and the interpreting! Moved—carried, as passive agents. The words are still the living words of God as spoken through the prophets on the page in front of you!
