Scripture Reading: Mark 1:1-28
Satan is a real person, an angel given certain power and authority, even though ultimately doomed by Christ.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Put on—put on armor of light/God, Christ, new man, etc—aspects of armor fully realized in Christ—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, word. All basically same concept. Of God—it’s His, He has given to us, not our protection, but His, but we have to put it on. Wiles—deceit, craft, trickery, strategems of a skilful leader. Wrestle—hand to hand, toe to toe combat. Flesh—people are tools, don’t fight them, fight the power behind them.
Evil day—not just only one day, but when an evil day comes on you, you don’t know when this is, so keep the armor on. Done all—bravery and activity, to stand—calm,well-balanced stedfastness.
We need spiritual help against the Devil. We can’t do this alone.
2 Corinthians 2:9-11—read 11 alone first, then return to Satan at work in church.
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Get an advantage—be outmaneuvered by Satan, meet strategy with strategy.
What are his devices: liar, murderer, destroyer, divider. Others?
1. Church discipline—if a person has been disciplined and they repent, forgive him and restore to fellowship. Satan likes to mess with church discipline. Church can be Satan’s weapon! Not just a danger for the person but for the whole church—US.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Satan’s ministers copy him—they go for appearances over substance. No great thing—not a difficult matter, nor is it a strange occurrence. Watch their works—not their words nor their appearance.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:27 Neither give place to the devil.
Anger is one of Satan’s favorite things. A gateway sin! Wrath—irritation, exasperation, indignation. Get it dealt with today. Anger can be OK, but not prolonged irritation over an unaddressed problem. Don’t give the devil any room to ruin you or others. He uses anger to destroy unity.
How do we fight the Devil?
--temptation of Christ—gotta know your word to resist his lies and temptations.
1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Pay attention and always be on guard. Roaring lion—violent and insatiable thirst for prey. Stedfast—unmovable, firmly set. We’re all in this, take comfort, solace, and support, not like Elijah who thought he was alone in suffering.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Submit—subject yourself to God, literally to be placed under, take shelter in Him, the ultimate Victor over our foe. Resist—stand bravely against. Personal purity along with complete non-questioning adherence to God.
