Scripture Reading: James 3
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Name—essential characteristics. Everlasting Father—He will never cease being these things. Not a temporal reign. No term limits! Peace—safe, healthy, welfare, friendly. Increase—His rule will perpetually increase and be unlimited. Judgment Justice—not a kingdom by force, but by righteousness.
Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;
15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.17 And the work [effect] of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;
Jerusalem will be in sad state. The coming of His Spirit on Israel will make all the difference. With His Spirit comes justice and righteousness. Eternal peace, resting, no fear of enemies or turmoil of any kind. A smiling and contented people.
Romans 14:17—don’t let insignificant, external things divide us.
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
True spiritual living does not consist in external observances. Proof of your salvation does not lie in external religious rites, but it a changed character resulting in righteousness, peace, and joy. Don’t let external things ruin that.
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Earthly things will lead to fighting and arguing. Your anger and vehemence is not proof of spirituality, it’s proof of earthliness. Peaceable—quiet and inoffensive.
Righteousness is the wisdom from above and starts in peace and leads to peace.
We know the Prince of Peace, we are in Him and He is in us! You are assured of that when righteousness and peace develop in your life.
