Scripture Reading: Psalm 57
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
John 3:36-- He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Why is the punishment for non-belief so severe?
1 John 5:9-10
If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
We believe people all the time for basis of facts and opinions, yet we make God a liar by not believing Him. Non-belief is assuming God is saying falsehood, you are accusing Him of lying. You may not think God is a liar, nor charge Him with lying, but simply not believing what He says proves you think He is.
1 John 1:10—if we say we have not sinned we make God a liar, not “we lie.”
We should be more concerned with being liars ourselves!
1 John 2:4--He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 4:20--If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Titus 1:2—God that cannot lie
Hebrews 6:18—impossible for God to lie
If God only tells the truth, when we don’t do what He says, then we are liars for saying we have faith. You have two options—either you are a liar, or God is. What is more disastrous?
What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
God gave the Jews all sorts of revelation, in God’s mind it was sufficient. Most Jews missed it, not all believe. Thus, God did not fulfill His promises. Is God unfaithful? Will He not deliver those who do believe? Does this mean God is a liar? NO way! Paul thinks it’s way better for God to be true, even if that makes us all liars. IF God is a liar, then everything falls apart. His Word keeps all things together; if that falls, all falls. There is no judgment, no right and wrong.
Romans 1:25--Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
The corruption in this world changes God’s truth into a lie. Satan started by asking if God really said what He said. Can you trust God? He hasn’t stopped that attack.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
Liars hate the truth. Murderer and liar go together—doubting the one who gave you life results in death. Verse 45—had Christ been less true, they would have believed Him, the truth which He spoke! Being rejected for what you say aint always bad! Depends on the audience!
2 Thessalonians 2:7-12
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Iniquity—lawlessness. A time of unbridled sin is coming in day of Antichrist.
Received not—did not welcome, Not just accepting the truth, but loving it. Since their whole life is lived for lies, God will ultimately let them go get their lie. All belief in lies is for the purpose of unbridled, guilt-free sinning. Willful sin strengthens the power of temptation from outside, and weakens the power to resist inside. The best guard against lies is a sincere love of the truth.
