Scripture Reading: John 12:24-50

Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Be Strong—strengthened, grow in strength, an active power to fight in God’s power. Put on—putting on Christ, the new man. His power and provision. Wrestle—hand to hand combat. Demonic forces are behind our age. Rather than getting mad at people, our hostility is toward the demons behind the whole thing. Take unto you—use what God has already provided in Christ. Having done all—but we still must prepare and be ready—watch and pray.

Ephesians 6:14-17

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Sword—everything else is defensive. Does not mean we attack people! Who is the enemy? Satan, as Christ used the word to deflect the temptation of Satan.

Revelation 1:13-16

And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Sword—comes to judge. He has no human weapon, merely His words, which are sufficient to take down any authority. Verse 17—John falls at His feet as dead

Revelation 2:14-16—to church of Pergamos

But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Balaam’s donkey was stopped by an angel of God wielding a sword. Here’s your sword! I hope they have smart donkeys that can help them repent! Nicolaitans—they dominate with their authority or they are antinomian.

Revelation 19:13-16

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

Revelation 19:20-21

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Here are your spiritual power running the world! Use God’s Word to not fall into their deception now, so God’s Word doesn’t just you later.

Hebrews 4:12-14

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner [judge] of the thoughts and intents of the heart.13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Quick—living. Powerful—energetic, effectual, operative. Dividing--splits, cuts through the most closely joined parts of human nature. Intents—conceptions, ideas, will, manner of thinking and feeling.
