9)         The eternal state of man-  We believe that man has an eternal conscious existence either in Heaven- eternally blissful in God’s presence, or in Hell, the Lake of Fire- eternally tormented, separated from God.  We do not believe in soul sleep or annihilation.

Separated from God—from God’s goodness.

Proverbs 15:11 “Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?” Revelation 14:10 “he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb”

Matthew 25: 41-46

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

--judgment is based on what they did. They think they did the right thing the whole time!

--everlasting is used in the Bible for shorter things: Jonah 2 talks about time in fish as being for ever, sort of.

--same word in Greek for eternal punishment as eternal life.

 John 5:28-29

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Two words for done—evil one means to practice, repeatedly, habitually. Good—to make or produce.

John 11:25,26

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

I am—not the one who does resurrection, He is the embodiment of resurrection life, as one who is immortal.

Liveth—more than head knowledge, a new way of life, raised up to new life in Christ.

Philippians 1:23

For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Desire—craving, longing, lust. Better—more advantageous. Excellent.

Philippians 3:21

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Change—transform, transfigure
